SCOTT SMATHERS
BOARD MEMBER

Scott Smathers has dedicated both his professional career and personal life to advancing conservation, protecting outdoor traditions, and strengthening Nebraska’s sporting heritage.

EDUCATION

Scott graduated from Washington High School in Germantown. He later attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he majored in Economics and Finance with a minor in Communications.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERINCE

Scott brings decades of leadership, management, and advocacy experience:
 
• Executive Director — Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation (2010–2024)
• Eastern Nebraska Regional Representative — Pheasants Forever (2008–2010)
• Eggers Consulting — Executive Recruiting (2002–2010)
• Pat Ryan & Associates / Ford Motor Credit Company — Western U.S. District Manager (1986–2008)

Scott’s leadership roles and appointments reflect his longstanding commitment to conservation policy and advocacy:

 

• President — Cornhusker Chapter, Pheasants Forever (2011–Present)
• Board Member — Big Game Conservation Association (2012–Present)
• Executive Board Member — Nebraska Land Trust (2010–2024)
• Member — Nebraska Water Task Force (Legislative Appointment)
• Appointed Commissioner — Nebraska Natural Resources Commission

During his tenure on the Commission, Scott served in multiple leadership capacities, including Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Rules Committee, contributing to statewide conservation initiatives and funding oversight.

A PASSION FOR THE OUTDOORS

Scott’s connection to hunting, fishing, and the outdoors began early in life. He strongly believes the outdoors instill enduring values — family, honesty, responsibility, and stewardship of natural resources.

 

For Scott, conservation is not merely an obligation — it is a lifelong passion centered on preserving traditions and opportunities for future generations.

SHARING HIS LOVE OF THE OUTDOORS WITH FAMILY

Scott is married to his supportive wife, Angie, and is the proud father of two grown children, Nicole and Zach. He is also a grandfather to three wonderful grandchildren.

 

Whether through family activities or mentorship, Scott remains deeply committed to passing along his love for the outdoors.

Scott lived in Nebraska from 1974 to 1980 and returned in 1985, where he has proudly called Nebraska home ever since.
